Famed in Story: When Leo asks Tan if he wants to join their cause, he replies that "word gets around" and he knows what they're trying to do.Clingy MacGuffin: All of them receive Divine Artifacts that boost their powers and cannot be removed.Downplayed in that Leo actually has a slightly higher speed stat than Ez, but Ez learns battle skills that allow him to temporarily increase his speed. Balance, Speed, Strength Trio: The second party trio of Leo, Ez, and Zinikr.Area of Effect: Many battle skills, like Ez's grenades and Cheryl's Knight Impact, will damage all enemies in an wide area.Anti-Debuff: Kina and Prickle learn skills that remove stat debuffs from allies.I have to fool with a couple of the puzzles to unlock the last optional boss (“King of Emptiness”) and then I’m done. That may seem unusual, but logically it comes to the same thing as just leveling up. The weapons have “abilities” that you activate by winning enough battles, as you know. Yes, you don’t have “levels”, but you do have stats/attributes which seem to sort of randomly increase as you win battles.

So the basic is a warmup for the bonus, which is similar to many of the Kemco games. My complaint, besides the interface problems, is that the basic game is boring and you can completely skip just about all the optional stuff. If you like the running around and mix of puzzles, it is a good game. Still, much of it can (and must) be overcome by high levels (but not all that high). That’s good design, and makes it more fun. The arena: here is a big hint (I’ve now completed everything in it): some of the monsters are customized to fit the particular individual you are using. (But then, I don’t play a lot of other rpgs, so maybe it’s common in the genre and I just don’t know? ) I only remember that you can learn skills from weapons, which I really like, and that you don’t actually level up but your stats increase, which I thought seemed pretty innovative. Hmm, well perhaps I will wait on this one. It played better on my Kindle HD than on my Nexus 7.

And the timed puzzles, where you must use the 4-way controller to have a chance, were just nasty this time. I think the awful interface got in the way of my enjoyment of the game–on my tablet, which usually has no problems, I found the game quite unresponsive to taps. You can always take a break from the arena to fool with the crest orbs, the ice areas, etc. I also beat the bad optional boss this time and left it at that rather than seeing how fast I could win the battle (the boss tells you # of turns, so you can repeat the fight to see if you improve).Īnyway…if you just want to finish the game so you can be strong enough to do the arena (actually, I don’t think you even need to finish), just roll through and don’t worry about finding everything.

I recall the carts/tracks, which I never like, and I just left one of the chests this time rather than fighting to figure it out (I do recall I got them all last time). I easily got through the team match, and am struggling with the individual ones (I just have 2 to go and I’ll have won them all). This time I just sailed through and didn’t bother with the “extras” until I could work in the arena. Replaying it reminded me of how last time I carefully did everything and acted like a completist.
